Boost Your Metabolism

Did you know that our lifestyle and diet affect the efficiency of our metabolism? A higher metabolism rate means your body can convert the food you consume into the energy required for growth and repair more effectively. Good news is you can control several factors to positively impact your metabolism.

Diet

Eat balanced diet that is:
  • High in lean protein, fibre, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats.
  • Low in saturated and trans fat and processed food.

Tips: Eat regular meals and avoid skipping meals.

Physical Activity

Engage in physical activities to:
  • Burn calories, build lean muscles and boost metabolism.

Tips: Try strength training, high-intensity training (HIIT) and other weight-bearing activities.

Increase Your NEAT

Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) is the daily movement that isn’t exercise such as walking, cleaning, cooking and taking the stairs. Try the following to increase your NEAT:
  • Standing during work meetings.
  • Park your car further away.
  • Use the stairs whenever possible.

Tips: Include something you enjoy in your daily activities such as dance while you clean or listen to music.

Sleep

The body needs to rest to reset and function better.
  • Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
  • Get a regular sleep schedule.
